At 16 years old, it’s either too early to decide what would be our plans in life or even if we have, it is but a mere haze of dreams with gripping uncertainties crammed in the back of our minds.
‘Cause why not? Sixteen is the peak of our teenage life where we are yet to make big decisions, which will determine our career paths in the future. However, the big notion of sweet sixteen is currently changing. Still sweet yet made complex with a taste of responsibilities – sixteen for some is living the dream. And that has Tami Williams name written on it.
We could all agree Shaekagale Shanicece Williams though a beautiful name is quite a mouthful; thus the world has come to know her as simply “Tami” Williams.
Tami Williams, at 11 years old, has a height of 5’8. And despite the towering height Tami knows not to shrink just to fit in the complex do’s and don’ts only teenagers know. Instead, our Jamaican model stood tall in an elegant posture, and that is enough to grab the attention of Deiwght Peters, a Saint International’s CEO. Yet, it isn’t the start of her modeling career. Tami declined, deciding she needs a bit of growing first.
And she did.
Tami started her career at thirteen years old with a height of 5’11 last 2012. With mature personality and a poise born for modeling, Tami created buzz among powerful fashion players once she graced the “City of Dreams.” Represented by Elite New York, Tami’s portfolio grew in dribs and drabs until her breakthrough when she debuted at Alexander Wang’s Fall 2014 Show.
Since then, our Jamaican model has lived her dream. Her name becomes a regular in the runway. One season has her running to-and-fro as she struts at the runway with an average of four shows a day. Her name becomes also attached to the numerous personalities in the industry such as Grace Coddington, Steven Klein, Pat McGrath, and Karl Templer. She also has the opportunity to have a spot on esteemed designer labels such as Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana and Ralph Lauren.
Indeed, at sixteen this August, Tami Williams conquered her dream being one of the most-sought models and with a stellar record to brag. Yet despite being a rising model, Tami is still grounded to her roots.
“I miss the [Jamaican] food like stew peas and curried chicken. While in Paris, my mother agent cooked curried and stewed chicken for me. I loved that.”
It is good to know that beneath her enviable poise and impressive catwalks still lies the simple girl from Black River.
