For the 90s kid, the decade has the best moments of their lives, yet we could agree that fashion isn’t topping the list. The awkward prom photo with your deep comb back hair and penciled eyebrows, not to mention the “trying to rock a fluorescent dress” look – those could be anyone’s worst fate and another reason why family albums are a forbidden territory.
Looking back, it is cringe-worthy when we try copying the 90s stars and end up having plucked too much and bronzed too less. This is why many stepped up the game and stayed away with anything that will remind us of those days – including our oil’ pal lip liners.
Lip liners used to be a on every girl’s purse back on its heyday. Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Anniston, and Winona Ryder are some of the many who wear lip liners partnered with very dark red brick lipstick it could be classified as brown. However, as time wore on, lip liners magic also wore off.
Buried deep down in our dressers and shelved in stores, teens today would probably be surprised of its existence. (Is it like, um, eyeliner for the lips?)
When lip glosses moved into town, the population starts becoming alienated to lip liners, however, many stylists still wear it and so do stars earlier this year. Kylie Jenner’s perfect pout sparked up our obsession with lips. Full lips, which makes a sexy pout can add to sex appeal of any women and boost the confidence. And if dressing it up to the nines means ticking those boxes, why not?
Apart from it is the current trend, lip liners have the benefits many have forgotten. Lip liners act as a barrier to prevent your lipstick from smudging or going past the line of your lips. It is also our gateway to fuller lips without the needles. It creates an illusion of plumper lips by highlighting the edges and filling up the spots. It also lasts longer and can be used as a stand-alone lip color.
The difference of how lip liners are used then and now are the color of the lipstick they are partnered with. If in the 90s, dark red verging into brown is the trend, lip liner has taken a subtle turn.
Full matte, invisible lines, and light colored brown lipstick, it makes up a refreshing and warmer look suiting up in sync for the trend of the year 2015.
