“To be beautiful is birthright of every woman.” – Elizabeth Arden
Born in an era when women weren’t so rampant in running their own business, Elizabeth Arden was so successful that she eventually became not only one of the most triumphant business women, but an icon as well. The impressive feat of her company that started about 100 years ago has continued to prosper making the name ‘Elizabeth Arden’ a trusted and reliable brand in the field of women’s necessities.
An innovator of her time, Arden must have been one of the firsts who mixed nature and the passion to beautify women to provide them the confidence they need. The Canadian-born mogul made her way through the streets of the now high-fashion Fifth Avenue in New York where the history of her inspiring pursuit to greatness started.
Arden’s early occupation included being a helper at a cosmetic shop. As a front liner, she slowly learned the fundamentals of the industry that granted her the knowledge she needed. She then became a beauty salon partner and turned into an owner afterwards.
Arden’s Red Door salon is not only a place where women can beautify and transform themselves, but it also played an important role in empowering women. As a known suffragette, she actively participated in a march that was joined by 15,000 women advocating their rights. She supplied the red lipstick that embodied empowerment during the said event.
Arden also made makeup more accepted in the era when it was associated mainly with prostitutes. With the revolution she started, using cosmetics became widely acceptable and turned out to be a tool for beautification. The woman of power died at the age of 81, but it was only until then that her real age was made known to the public.
The icon purposely kept her age in line with the brand’s core mission of ageless beauty. The brand continued to flourish even after her death. Today, the brand has an estimate worth of over a billion dollars.
