The cK Trend

Who on earth doesn’t know Calvin Klein? The name and the brand itself are tantamount to fashion and elegance.

Calvin Richard Klein was born on November 19, 1942 in Bronx, New York. During his childhood days he accompanies his mother on purchasing clothes which probably influenced his passion about fashion at an early age.

As a little kid, he trained himself to draw and sew and that earned him bursaries at New York High School of Art and Design and in FIT {Fashion Institute of Technology}, known as one of the prime institutions of higher edification in fashion in the US, where he finished in 1962.

After working as a novice in a coats shop, with a minimal capital of $ 10,000, he and his childhood buddy Barry Schwartz sprung their very first collection of coats, jackets, and capes for men and women in 1968.

Combining the supreme designing flairs of Klein and the administration and marketing strategy of Schwartz, they soon paved their way to the glitzy realm of fashion.

The brand then decided to expand its products with the launch of perfumes and lingerie collections which made massive success in the 80s.

The cK Calvin Klein became an international trend of the 90s, which denotes a more vibrant, urban, and fresher version of the brand, with clothing lines and accessories for men and women.

In February 2003, Calvin Klein vended the brand to Philips-Van Heusen (PVH) for $ 438 million, plus $30 million in stock sharing and dealings by 2018.

Months later, he signed up Brazilian Francisco Costa and the Italian Italo Zucchelli to design for him, correspondingly, the men’s and women’s collections.

His unveiling assortment reaped good critics from the international media. In August 2004, while Costa was preparing for another highly praised partaking in New York’s fashion week, Calvin Klein was quietly walking in shorts and flip-flops at Ipanema beach, in one of his many current touring to Brazil. Now that would be another fashion story.
