Monique’s Bride

Monique Lhuillier2

Weddings are always regarded as a once in a lifetime celebration of love. Thus, couples around the world work so hard to make this day remarkable.

One of the most important things that should not be taken for granted for a woman during her most special day is her wedding gown.

This will serve as her most important get up to marry the love of her life. In fashion, when talking about weddings, one name is always constant, Monique Lhuillier.

Monique Lhuillier is a fashion designer from Philippines, eminent for bridal wear. She was born in 1971 to Michel J. Lhuillier and Amparito Llamasand raised in Cebu City in a house with one sister and two brothers.

Her father was born in Vietnam when the country was a French colony. He is a jeweler, estate buyer and a diplomat while her mother is a former model.

Monique’s parents used to forbade their daughters from wearing black outfits when they were young. Her mother sewed her clothes as well as her daughters’ apparel and became so interested and proficient in it that she began a small business from her home.

Later on, the seamstresses made the daughters’ outfits. Seeing the designing and stitching process of tailoring, Monique became curious to learn more about this.

She then began spending time with the local designers and when the family had to go to any event or occasion; her parents gave Monique some liberty to design what she wanted to wear.

Monique Lhuillier and her husband, Tom Bugbee, founded Monique Lhuillier & Company in 1996, quickly establishing the label as a leading bridal couturier.

Lhuillier began designing evening gowns in 2001 and expanded into a full ready-to-wear line in 2003, launching her first fall collection at Fashion Week.

The Lhuillier ready-to-wear label is known for its glamorous red-carpet-worthy cocktail dresses and romantic evening gowns, while the label’s signature bridal gowns sport sashes in shades of pale blue, copper, or rose.

With dresses retailing for $1,500 to $10,000, Lhuillier’s bridal business grosses over $20 million per year.
