A Love that is Cartier

Cartier-Love-Bracelet

Love is something that most of us long for. It is a feeling that undoubtedly completes a person. There are different kinds of love but one love that brings spark and glitz is the very elegant CARTIER LOVE bracelet. It is considered as the “it eye candy” of the season.

Designed in 1969 in New York City, the LOVE bracelet was the brainchild of young Italian jewelry designer Aldo Cipullo, and it quickly became a must-have item for the city’s chicest denizens.

Inspired by the chastity belt and the idea that symbols of love should be everlasting, the bracelet’s unique charm lies in its locking mechanism. Rather than slipping onto your wrist, two C-shaped halves unhinge to clasp together before being screwed on with a miniature screwdriver included with each bracelet, reinforcing the idea that love is not to be taken lightly.

When Cartier first introduced the bracelet, many regarded it as a symbol of commitment. According to Vogue, legend even has it that some New York City hospitals keep a LOVE bracelet screwdriver on hand in case patients need the piece removed.

The LOVE bracelet bears a striking and intentional resemblance to medieval chastity belts, thanks to its locking mechanism. The reason behind this resemblance is that Cipullo was a student of history and consequently, his designs revolved around modern interpretations of ancient items, jewelry or otherwise.

So what makes the Cartier Love bracelet so special may you ask? The most distinctive feature of this bracelet is its locking mechanism – where other bracelets can be slipped onto the wrist or can be easily opened, these bracelets are designed to be opened with a special screwdriver, which comes with each bracelet.

This screwdriver is also available as a necklace, so that one person is wearing the “locked” bracelet and their other half is wearing the “key” – a very real life representation of holding the key to someone’s heart…er…love!

So, how far are you willing to go for LOVE?
