MADELINE

Madeline Stuart is an Australian, 18, affected by trisomy 21. Far from being defined by this chromosomal abnormality, the girl decided to become a model. Already won a bet because it will scroll at Fashion Week Fall / Winter 2015-2016 New York in September.

It’s a fairy tale, a dream come true. At 18, Madeline Stuart was chosen by the brand FTL Moda to tread the catwalk during Fashion Week in New York on 13 September. After the actress Jamie Brewer (American Horror Story) last February, Madeline Stuart becomes the second young woman with trisomy 21 that was invited to participate in Fashion Week. Behind this media event, is the struggle of a girl and her mother that is rewarded.

Maddy

Since 2013, Madeline Stuart fights for sweeping shots – often cruel and discriminatory – surrounding disability. Conscious from an early age that it does not in the mold of normality, the young native of Brisbane, Australia, one day decided that the best way to accept and prove to everyone that she is like the other, is to become a model.

At 16, Madeline began its metamorphosis. Six days a week, she practices gymnastics, swimming, dancing, and even cheerleading. She lost 20 kilos, felt better about herself and decided that it’s the right time to storm the fashion world.

“The world was ready for Madeline”

Madeline-Stuart

Between 2013 and 2015, Madeline slowly builds a reputation. She joined Instagram (with more than 73,000 subscribers) and gradually became the aspiring supermodel who buzz. Last May, Buzzfeed devoted an article ,in which his mother, Rosanne said, “I think it is time that people realize that those affected by Trisomy 21 can be sexy and beautiful, and must be celebrated “. Madeline Stuart became the muse for two American brands, Ever Maya, an accessory shoe (which dedicate even a line of handbags in her name) and Manifesta, specializing in fitness clothing.

With FTL Moda Fashion Week and the young trisomic not only builds its reputation, it would also like to put a little more light on his fight against the stereotypes associated with disability and standardized redefine our vision of beauty. Recently questioned by US Cosmopolitan, Rosanne explained why it believes the arrival of her daughter in the world of fashion, is a blessing for all:

“The world was ready. The world wants to be inclusive, allowing it just lacked someone with such visibility him to become one. I remember when I was at school everyone was homophobic and other stuff in the genre, while today it’s finally cool to be gay. Imagine ten years how will our society with people who have disabilities. It will not be like now, it will be a standard. It will be probably cool to hang out with a person who has an intellectual disability because we will realize that these people care more about emotions than the material world.”

MADDY 2

Rosanne also said that her daughter had finally met his idol Jamie Brewer: “They both have wonderful personalities. She was very happy to meet Maddy, she followed her path on Twitter for months.” For Madeline Stuart, the fairytale continues.
